Description:

The goal of this three-year program is to improve the sustainable management of natural resources and the conservation of biodiversity in Asia. Initially, program activities will focus on four Mekong countries - Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand. Successful activities may be replicated in other countries in Asia at a later phase. Activity sites are encouraged in transboundary areas and in areas where biodiversity corridors will be established. Additional areas in which work may occur are those with the potential to provide environmental services such as a steady water supply in critical watersheds. Natural resource management and biodiversity conservation activities are to be carried out with the explicit goal of improving the livelihoods of the rural poor dependent upon these resources. The program will also strengthen environmental governance and institution building.
